Black CoffeeOn February 11, 1990, Nelson Mandela was released from prison after 27 years. It was a big international event with one newspaper calling it ‘the most extraordinary day in recent South African politics’.

Many South Africans remember the day as such. It was the beginning of the end of apartheid.

However, one Mzansi celebrity has a different memory of that day.

Black Coffee was barely 14 years old. As he joined his friends and frankly the rest of the country in celebrating Mandela’s freedom, he got involved in a tragic accident. He was hospitalized in pain, but two others were not as lucky as him.
