Actor Yonda Thomas has taken to social media to warn his followers of a potential con among delivery drivers.
The Isidingo star narrated his experience with an Uber Eats driver on Instagram. Uber Eats is ride hailing app Uber’s food delivery service that has been catching on in South Africa.
Last week, Yonda revealed that he had fallen victim of a scam. He ordered 24 hot wings an chose the cash option. Upon the driver’s arrival, he realized he did not have change but the driver offered to get change from a nearby shop.
“I gave him the money, like an idiot, and he took the money and the food. This guy was gone 15 to 20 minutes,” Yonda said.
The driver eventually returned with the change and everything appeared resolved. But the 33 year old would later receive a notification that his meal was not paid for, and that his account was in arrears.
The actor said that he contacted Uber but they refused to help claiming it wasn’t ‘their problem’.
“!!!SCAMMER ALERT!!!
A @ubereats_za driver scammed me & when I tried getting assistance from @uber_rsa they simply just said it wasn’t their problem… I’m shook.”
