Gas Explosion in Olifantsfontein Injures 50

A chemical gas explosion in Olifantsfontein left at least 50 injured on Friday morning. The incident happened at a business premises.

Paramedics and emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after 7 am, and found numerous people lying on the ground.

“On closer inspection, medics found that the business had already been evacuated,” ER24 paramedics spokesman Russel Meiring said.

“Assessments showed that approximately 50 people had sustained minor to moderate injuries. Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were found on the scene.”

Patients were attended at the scene, and those needing further care transported to nearby hospitals.

Authorities are investigating the incident.
