Intercape Bus Drivers Busted with R3.4 Million Drugs

Intercape BusThree suspects have been arrested in Northern Cape, following a drug sting conducted by the Hawks.

The bust happened on an Intercape bus in Upington, Northern Cape. It was travelling from Johannesburg to Cape Town.

Drugs with a street value of R3.4 million were recovered, according to Provincial Hawks spokesperson Nomthandazo Mnisi. He revealed that the bus was intercepted after they received tip-off.

The drugs included Mandrax tablets, dagga and tik.

Among those put in custody were the two drivers and a passenger. They are expected to appear before the Upington Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The bus service confirmed the incident, and said that it was them who had notified authorities.

“Intercape received an anonymous tip-off phone call and immediately contacted the Upington narcotics bureau.

“Due to legal limitations we cannot confirm any matters under police investigation at this stage. We can, however, confirm that Intercape is also conducting its own internal investigation into the matter,” they noted.
