5,000 Chicken Stolen from Port Elizabeth Prison

Eastern Cape PrisonSeveral Eastern Cape correctional services staff are under investigations following the disappearance of over 5,000 chicken and dozens of pigs.

The animals were stolen from farms inside two prison grounds

The chicken belonged to St Albans prison’s poultry project in Port Elizabeth, while the pigs were stolen from Middledrift prison’s piggery project. According to prison source, a tractor is also missing at Middledrift prison.

The piggery has been feeding over 10,000 prisoners at 13 prisons in the entire Eastern Cape.

An inquiry has been launched, and according to Eastern Cape department of correctional services and the national correctional services department, ‘several cases of theft’ have been reported to the police.
