Residents in Cape Town will no longer have to wait for six months to receive their ID’s. According to the Home Affairs department, the smart ID’s will now be issued within a week.
To achieve this, the department has improved its services in Stellenbosch by constructing a modern office in the area. The office is well equipped with modern equipment to facilitate faster production of the smart ID’s.
Deputy Minister Fatima Chohan said that more modern facilities will be opened in the coming months.
“The system is so smart that it automatically packs the produced ID card into an envelope addressed to the office where you applied. This happens in seconds. It’s more efficient and because there’s no human intervention, it is that much more secure.”
Further, the Home Affairs department this week opened two other offices in the Northern Cape and the Northwest province.
