Quiteria Kekana Says He Is Broke And Is Yet To Be Paid For Beyoncé’s Global Citizen Dress
Top designer Quiteria Kekana disclosed on Instagram that he is unable to pay his bills. This is after he parted ways with former partner George Malelu. Together they had founded a label called ‘Quiteria and George’. The duo designed a dress that Beyoncé wore at the Global Citizen event that was held three years ago.
The designer revealed that he is yet to be paid for working on the dress Beyoncé wore for the Global Citizen event was held in South Africa in 2018.
The dress was a collaboration between Quiteria and George and actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshewa. Quiteria revealed that they had made 48 garments that Beyoncé didn’t wear and had to get financial assistance from Enhle Mbali to make the final dress that Beyoncé wore.
Quiteria said that the payment issue wasn’t Beyoncé’s fault because they hadn’t rectified the invoice and followed up on it.
“I want you to hear it from me directly. It was never Beyoncé’s fault on payments. We were supposed to rectify the invoice and follow it up,” he explained.
He went ahead to say that the process of following up on the payment was so painful that he no longer wanted it.
“Right now, I don’t even want it. That’s how painful the process has been,” he said.
Quiteria refused to reveal who was responsible for payment and how much it is, citing that it was not about the money.
“I actually don’t want it. I don’t even want to mention the amount. For me, its not about the money. I am recognised internationally,” he said.
A source close to Quiteria said hat the bigger issue was the awarding of the tender and why the designers didn’t get compensated yet Enhle’s contribution was only buying the fabric.
“We need to ask ourselves who got the tender and why after three years the designers didn’t get compensated for work done. Remember, Quiteria and George designed the dress and Enhle’s contribution was financial in terms of fabric, the source said.
The super designer has continued working hard none the less, having worked recently worked as a creative director at the Durban Fashion Fair.
He has also been nominated for the Female fashion brand of the year category at the Global Style Icon Awards. Quiteria took to his Instagram urging followers to vote for him.
