Phat Joe Skips Work Again… What’s Going On?
The controversy surrounding Phat Joe and his constant breaks from work is leaving fans pissed off.
Last week, news broke that the DJ may have been suspended by SABC for taking a leave of absence without authorization. The media personality co-hosts the breakfast show Phat Joe and The Family on Radio 2000, alongside Nala Tose.
There were reports that he has been on and off work as he wishes since the Christmas break.
SABC however come out to deny suspending him, saying he was on a ‘special leave’.
“The SABC can confirm that Mr Majota Kambule is currently on special leave, details of which we’re unable to comment on out of respect for the contractual relationship between the two parties,” a spokesperson said.
A day after his absence made headlines, he was back to work and the matter seemed resolved. “The SABC can confirm that Mr. Majota Khambule “Phat Joe” is back on air having been on special leave,” SABC acting spokesman Mmoni Seapolelo said.
It did not take long for the same thing to happen again.
On Wednesday and Thursday, Phat Joe was again off air without any explanation. Reports have it that though he communicated with his managers about his intended absence, fans were left in the dark.
An informant told Daily Sun,“Chris spoke to him about him missing work. When he reported for duty on Monday, listeners were happy, because they missed him.
“I really don’t know what could be wrong with him as the guy doesn’t even drink.
“We could say maybe he has a lifestyle problem.”
Once again, SABC told us not to read too much into it.
“Mr Majota Khambule, like any of the SABC employees and Independent Contractors, is entitled to take some time off work and was off-air for two days this week, on Wednesday and Thursday and was back on air on Friday,” a spokesman said.
It remains to be seen how this story ends.
