Phat Joe Suspended by SABC Following Poor Work Ethics

Phat JoeControversial radio presenter Phat Joe has reportedly been forced to take leave of absence by SABC.

The media personality co-hosts the breakfast show Phat Joe and The Family on Radio 2000, alongside Nala Tose. However, he has reportedly not showed up to work for the last 3 weeks, all this without official permission.

For this and other professional misdeeds, SABC has put him on ‘special leave’. SABC spokesperson Mmoni Seapolelo confirmed the reports but refused to elaborate or give any reasons as to why.

“The SABC can confirm that Mr Majota Kambule is currently on special leave, details of which we’re unable to comment on out of respect for the contractual relationship between the two parties,” she said.

Phat Joe preferred not to comment on the matter, referring questions to the national broadcaster.

This was not the first time the DJ has failed to report to work unathorized. He reportedly pulled the same stunt after the December holiday break.

An insider speaking anonymously to Daily Sun said, “He was given a few days to rest in the festive season, but instead of returning in January on the agreed date, he stayed away some more.

“This angered station manager, Chris Choane, because he’s been protecting him since he brought him to the station in April last year. Chris put his career and reputation on the line for him.

“When he recruited Phat Joe to replace popular Just Ice, people within the SABC and listeners revolted.

“But Chris went ahead because he felt the breakfast show needed some change since Just Ice has been doing it for 12 years.

“Now, Chris is embarrassed as some of his detractors remind him they told him so.

“Only if Phat Joe knew what he has done.”

Another person with inside information said that Phat Joe has grown arrogant because he knows the listeners love him and he will be back to work whenever he wants.

“If he had an ounce of worry, he would have been at work when he was required to do so.

“He knows he’ll be back at work in no time.

“Hence he’s not bothered by his suspension.”

However, some now believe it is very unlikely that his contract will be renewed.
