Controversial dancer and socialite Zodwa Wabantu has very confusing views on skin lightening products.
Last year when confronted with claims of being addicted to cosmetic improvements and surgeries, she said that while she often does procedures on herself, she would never touch her skin colour.
Well, her actions just a few months later tell a very different message.
On Tuesday, Zodwa posted an Instagram video of herself not only promoting a skin lightening and brightening product, but actually using it on herself. Zodwa dubbed it ‘Africa’s first’.
“Africa’s first Skin Lightning and skin glow & brightening milkshake, take the 2 week skin challenge now. Just add milk and honey and stir(also juice). The wizard does it again.”
She is seen mixing a scoop of white powder with milk, before adding honey to taste.

Despite the health concerns that come with skin lightening products, many African women and South Africans in particular continue to use them. The practice is increasingly frowned upon but the market is huge, which would explain why a company would use an influencer like Zodwa to promote its product.
Nevertheless, many of those commenting on the video were not pleased.
“This is sad and you are letting a white man do this to you ?“ one person wondered.
“So you putting chemicals into your body to lighten your skin? Wow ! No thanks ! That’s crazy,” another wrote.
“Sweetie is that even safe for the internal organs?“ a concerned fan asked.
“What happened with Vaseline and sunlight soap?” another asked, referring to Zodwa’s pledge to stop using such chemicals.
But in the middle of all those comments, many were asking where they can buy the product from.
