Cape Town Dam Levels Surpass 75%

Cape Town dam levelsOnce on the verge of day zero, Cape Town water levels are now looking up and promising.

August 1, 2019 was set as the day when the city dams will reach a milestone of 75% capacity, and it did just that, sitting at 75.5%.

There is even more good news in that more rain is predicted to be on the way.

Last year, water levels stood at only 56.8%, which shows just how big of an improvement this has been.

Of the major dams, Wemmershoek has the highest capacity at 76.9%, with Steenbras Lower at 76.7%.

Voelvlei is at 76.4%, while Theewaterskloof is lowest at 66.1%.

Berg River and Steenbras Upper are both above 100%, and are expected to overflow as more rains fall next week.
