“Spotify Lite was built from the ground up based on user feedback from around the world, allowing millions more to enjoy the world’s best music experience — especially in areas with limited bandwidth and phone storage,” said Spotify senior product manager Kalle Persson.

Most people around the world, especially in developing countries, remain cautious of their data usage owing to the steep prices of bandwidth. Spotify follows the lead of other players like Facebook and Twitter, who have also launched smaller versions of their apps.

The app is available on Play Store, for all devices running Android 4.3 or higher.
