Pilots Want New SAA Interim CEO Replaced

The South African Airways Pilots Association has expressed dissatisfaction in the appointment of Zukisa Ramasia as the interim CEO of SAA.

The pilots have written to the board to express their views, saying that Zukisa has neither the experience nor financial acumen to run a major airline. They added that the recent events at the airline are a “cause for profound distress and concern”.

“SAA needs an interim CEO with the appropriate experience and financial acumen to successfully run a major airline. Unfortunately, Ms. Ramasia is not that person,” a statement from the association read.

“The simple truth is that SAA will not survive unless critical operational and technical deficiencies are immediately addressed by a competent leadership team.”

Zukisa is the former General Manager of operations at the airline. He was appointed for his current role on June 7, following the resignation of Vuyani Jarana.

“We have written to the board to express our dismay at the appointment of Ms. Ramasia and the retention of SAA’s underperforming management team,” the pilots’ association’s statement continued.

“We are scheduled to meet with the board this week, in an attempt to resolve the crisis at SAA.”

Jarana was appointed CEO in November 2017, with high hopes that he would turn the struggling airline around. He resigned early this month citing “bureaucracy and uncertainty about funding”.
