Roger Federer Hopes To Raise R15 Million in Cape Town Match
Tennis king Roger Federer has already landed in the country, hours before the much publicized exhibition match between him and another Tennis great Rafael Nadal.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion touched down at Cape Town International Airport on Wednesday, flying in from Windhoek where he met with Namibia’s President Hage Geingob.
“After a long period of planning and a huge effort from the whole team, I have finally arrived in South Africa to experience a unique moment,” the 38-year-old said on arrival.
“I am very much looking forward to a spectacular evening in Cape Town. I hope that as many people as possible will be able to join me in and outside the stadium or in front of the TV.”
Friday’s match will be his first ever in sub-Saharan Africa. Before playing a singles match with his fellow tennis legend, Federer will link up with Bill Gates for a 30 minutes doubles as they go head to head with Rafael Nadal and Trevor Noah.
The match is organized in support of children education in several African countries.
Federer hopes they will raise at least $1 million.
“We hope to raise at least a million dollars. I think it’s gonna be more than that – obviously counting ticket sales and sponsors … you add all these things together, I think, we will raise a substantial amount of money,” he told reporters.
