MTN SA New Tik Tok Bundles Explained

Tik Tok South AfricaFollowing the rise in popularity of short-form video sharing platform ‘Tik Tok’, MTN South Africa has launched data bundle plans specifically for use on the app.

The new bundles range from R5 for a daily plan to R50 for a monthly one. Their launch comes following a promise made last year by MTN SA CEO Godfrey Motsa that they would cater for the growing number of Tik Tok users.

“We have heard our customers and hope that the launch of these bundles will enable them to make the most of what is arguably the fastest growing social platform amongst the youth,” Jacqui ‘O Sullivan, Corporate Affairs Executive at MTN SA noted.

“We are committed to providing products and solutions that resonate with our customers, and the introduction of our TikTok bundles is another such offering.”

The bundle plans are meant for pre-paid users and are mostly targeting teenagers and young adults.


The daily plan of 100MB goes for R5

The weekly plan of 500MB goes for R20

The monthly plan of 1GB goes for R50.


Tik Tok, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, has seen phenomenal growth over the course of a few years. It has been downloaded over 1.5 billion times, and is a favourite app of Gen Z.

“Although there are no official figures to measure the penetration of TikTok in South Africa, local hashtags such as #tiktoksouthafrica and #southafrica indicate that the social media service has a total of 7 000 videos and 350 000 South African fans, while videos categorised with the hashtag #tiktoksouthafrica already have in excess of 400 million views,” MTN said in a statement.
