FlySafair Passenger Dies at OR Tambo International

FlySafairA passenger died at OR Tambo International on Tuesday morning, moments after boarding a FlySafair flight.

The man is said to have looked unwell when he boarded the plane, but collapsed and died before crew could establish his suitability to fly.

The airline’s Head of Sales and Distribution Kirby Gordon, said that one of the crew members inquired from him whether he was fine to fly, before sitting him on a chair close to the door.

“He was boarding and at the door when the flight attendant asked him if he was okay. She sat him down on a chair not far from the door and turned to go and consult with the captain so that he could determine if the passenger was fine to fly.

“She had just taken two steps when he collapsed.”

Despite the crew’s first responders’ training, they were unable to save the man’s life.

“They were unfortunately unable to save his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with all connected to this person and with those who witnessed this tragic event this morning. We would also like to say thank you to the other passengers for their patience,” Kirby said.

The plane was evacuated so that police could carry out their investigations.

Today’s incident comes just days after a dead foetus was discovered on a FlySafair flight from Durban to Johannesburg.
