All Government Ministers To Receive ‘Free DSTV’ in New Benefits

A newly released ‘ministerial handbook’ touching on the benefits of members of the executive has been released.

Titled “Guide for Members of the Executive”, the handbook took effect in June 2019, and lists all benefits cabinet ministers will receive as part of their employment package.

Ministers are entitled to free travel and accommodation, and to a support staff and services.

Their cellular telephone rentals as well as costs of official calls are covered.

Installation an maintenance of fax, internet service and DSTV at their official residences is covered.

Ministers also receive paid ‘domestic services’.

“The department responsible for Public Works will be responsible for the cost for all cleaning materials, equipment, and chemicals,” it states.

“The costs of employing one domestic worker, per official residence, shall be borne by the relevant department. The domestic worker will be appointed by the relevant department in terms of the legislation applicable to employees of the public service and perform such duties as contained in the relevant job description.”

On top of that, each minister is given one vehicle for official use, which will be replaced once it reaches 120,000 km in mileage or is 5 years old.
