New Multi-million Rand Mall Coming Up in Durban

A new multi-million rand shopping mall has been earmarked for Durban. Going with the name Midway Crossing Shopping Centre, the mall will be located between Lindelani Township and Newlands West.

The mall will eliminate the need for residents travelling long distances for shopping, according to the city.

The project is estimated to cost R700 million, and will create 1000 permanent jobs and 600 during construction.

City Mayor Zandile Gumede and Sihle Zikalala the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs performed a sod turning ceremony at the site on Thursday.

The City said that black-owned businesses will acquire 40 percent stake with local community trust owning 5 percent of it, as part of the Radical Economic Transformation.
