Johannesburg – The news about Muammar Gaddafi’s millions keep evolving. On Tuesday, former president Jacob Zuma spoke out against reports that he kept $30million (R422m) belonging to the late Libyan leader.
The former president, through his foundation – Jacob Zuma Foundation, said that he is considering legal action, and would be meeting the Press Ombudsman over the media reports.
The foundation slammed the story, which originated from the Sunday Times, as a fabrication which had put the president’s life in danger.
“On June 4, 2017, the Sunday Times published that the former president has a Dubai home. To date, the newspaper has failed to produce evidence of that non-existent property.
“On October 14, 2018, the Sunday Times admitted that it had published tainted scoops during the Zuma presidency. Once again those scoops turned out to be false. It is apparent that the Sunday Times joins an international cabal attempting to put former president Zuma’s life in danger,” the foundation told IOL.

Zuma is alleged to have stashed the money in his Nkandla home, before moving it to Eswatini. There have been numerous calls for investigative bodies to take action.
The foundation cited Minister of International Relations and Co-operation, Lindiwe Sisulu and King Mswati, who have both denied any knowledge of the money. It added that this is part of an ongoing campaign against Zuma.
“Former president Zuma is not aware of any money directed to his Nkandla home from former president Gaddafi, nor has he ever received funds from Gaddafi.” the statement continued.
