Charge Dropped: Zuma off the Hook in one Culpable Homicide Charge

It was a sigh of relief on Tuesday for former president Jacob Zuma’s son Duduzane Zuma, after the state dropped one count of culpable homicide.

Duduzane stood accused of negligently causing the deaths of Phumzile Dube and Nanki Mashaba. He appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.

In the crash in question, Dube died at the scene, while Mashaba died in hospital several weeks later.

The young Zuma is however not off the hook, as he still faces one more charge of culpable homicide. If found guilty, Duduzane faces upto 15 years in jail, but that’s on the extreme. Other sentences include correctional supervision, community service, house arrest or a suspended sentence.

The trial has been set for 4 days.
