Taxi Driver Caught with Police Gun
A potential drunk driving arrest in Kagiso turned out to be much more.
A taxi driver was stopped by Kagiso police on Sunday night, on suspicion of driving under the influence, only to find him with an illegally acquired police firearm, with its serial number filled off.
Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya said that the driver was pulled over at about 01:10 on Sunday after skipping stop signs and driving recklessly.
After conducting a search, police found the pistol.
“The police pulled the taxi aside and conducted a search, to both the vehicle and the driver who was allegedly intoxicated,” said Sibiya.
The man was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and will be arraigned in the Kagiso Magistrate’s Court this week.
