Porn DVDs Confiscated in Joburg Streets Destroyed
Authorities have seized and destroyed more than 200,000 pirated DVDs in the streets of Johannesburg.
The DVDs, most of which contained pornographic material, was confiscated by police in partnership with the Filming and Publication Board (FPB).
According to police spokesman Col Lungelo Dlamini, the DVDs were being sold on the streets and at taxi ranks.
“The destruction process is conducted to prevent the seized material from finding their way back to the market,” he said.
They were destroyed at Clayville.
Acting CEO of the FPB, Maria Matebang, said that clamping down on illegal distribution and piracy was meant to protect local content creators.
Gauteng police provincial commissioner Lt- Gen Mawela added that authorities will continue to clean up the streets, by raiding all distribution outlets.
