A 12-year-old boy seized from the streets of East London was found held in a dog kennel with a chain around his legs, Mdantsane police said on Monday.
“Neighbours heard him and called the police,” Captain Mluleki Mbi explained how his screams saved him.
After interviewing the boy, they discovered that he had been living on the streets of East London, begging to survive.
It is suspected that a 25-year-old man picked up the boy and took him to Mdantsane. But instead of helping him, he chained him in the dog kennel outside a house by the leg.
The man was arrested on Friday, and is expected to face charges of kidnapping and assault in Mdanstane Magistrate court on Monday.
The Department of Social Development has taken responsibility for taking care of the boy.
